Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?

No, as primary health care practitioners no referral is required to see a Podiatrist. However, depending on your pain or condition, your Podiatrist may contact your doctor or other health professionals to ensure you are receiving the appropriate care for your recovery.

Do you offer HICAPS on the spot claiming of health rebates?

Yes, Pod Fit Podiatry clinics offer HICAPS on the spot claiming and EFTPOS facilities. HICAPS supports most health insurance funds, for further information regarding HICAPS please refer to http://www.hicaps.com.au.

Note: In order to be eligible for on the spot claiming, you must present your health insurance card at the time of payment. Alternatively, an invoice can be issued to allow for self-claiming through your private health provider thereafter.

What should I bring?

Please bring any referrals/paperwork (relevant for Return to Work SA, Chronic Disease Management plans, DVA or MVA claims) or scans such as X-Rays, Ultrasounds and MRI’s related to your condition.
Please wear loose fitting clothing that will allow access to and movement of the injured or painful areas. This allows for better assessment and therefore better understanding of your current pain or condition.

Is Podiatry covered under Medicare?

If your GP has provided you with a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP) and has referred you to a Podiatrist you may be eligible for Medicare assistance. A GP can only issue this type of referral when a client has a chronic disease which is deemed eligable for funding through Medicare. This is the only means to obtain Medicare assistance for Podiatry.

Note: You will need to provide a copy of your CDMP referral at your initial consultation in order to proceed with treatment and management of your condition. Without a copy of your referral a private payment will need to be settled on the date of treatment.

Do you accept Return to Work/ DVA/ MVA claims?

Yes. We accept all Return to Work SA (formerly Work Cover SA), DVA and MVA claims.

Note: We do ask that you bring all the appropriate paperwork on your initial consult to ensure there is no delay in treatment and management. Without a copy of your referral a private payment will need to be settled on the date of treatment.

How much will my health fund cover?

Health fund rebates for Podiatry vary between each fund and your level of cover. We highly recommend contacting your health fund to find out your entitlements if you wish to do so prior to treatment.
