78 days, 20 hours, 2 minutes and 49 seconds to be exact.

Where are your thoughts on City to Bay…

Is it a blatant NO?
Are you sitting on the fence? Typical fence sitters…
OR you’ve registered and now you’re thinking heck now what do I do?!

There is never a better time to start training then now.

With great confidence we know that 78 days is plenty of time to prepare our body and mind to take part in this challenge.

To give you a helping hand we have put together our ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL beginners guide to get you kick started with City to Bay training. In fact, for any runners to be THIS is the guide for  you. To start our five part series, lets get you kicking and setting some goals.

Set goals SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achieveable, Realistic, Time Based) If you don’t set a goal then what are you aiming for?

Goals allow us to set a benchmark and give us a specific outcome to aim for. Without a goal, we could be aiming for a lofty aspiration such as “I want to do the City to Bay” or “I’d like to start running”. If you think about it, really, anyone can complete the City to Bay run even if that involves walking to the finish line. Without a specific & measurable goal it provokes vague thoughts and can even reduce motivation. With a specific goal in mind, you can and will achieve great things.

Did you know, a Harvard Business study revealed remarkable statistics relating to goal setting and success. The study found that the 14% who have goals are 10 times more successful than those without goals.

How cool is that?! To make it a little easier I’m go to write my own goals. Feel free to share yours on the comments listed below our facebook post for this blog!

An example:
S – I want to run city to bay non stop in under 60 minutes
M– The run has to be sub 60 minutes (ie 5 minute per km pace
A- Last year I ran city to bay in 1 hour 12 minutes, so 60 minutes is achievable. For women of my age it is an acceptable time.
R– I can run 5 minute km’s so it is possible, I just need to increase my distance. It is realistic.
T–  I have 12 weeks… let’s go!

What are you waiting for? Get some pen and paper (or iphone… whatever will work) and write your SMART goals with City to Bay.

Stay in the loop for the next four parts of our City to Bay series upcoming over the next couple of months!
